#10 // 'Pardon Me, Uhh As I Come Back...'

RESIZE SPACE

So, kin folk, recently I've been checking for some of the more breaks oriented producers doin it these days... producers like Quantic, Dusty and the mysterious Shoes folk. There's some quality jawns out there - check this piece by Will Holland of Quantic's newest project Flowering Inferno... Dumb. The more I listen to a lot of these records though, I can't help but think how cracking and how distinct Grown Folk Shit resident dj Greyboy's shit is. For reals. Just sayin...

3.19.09 // #4

What the business? Everybody good? Bet. So I've had a pretty amazing week so far. I ate at M Cafe 3 times in 24 hours. I caught a 25 cent Cockney Rebel record and a super gangster pair of boots at the Fairfax flea market. Then I went to a most incredible performance at the Luckman Theater on the CSULA campus. The show was part of the 'Timeless' series produced by the Mochilla crew. The 'Timeless' series of concerts is described as 'an homage to the arranger/composers that have influenced hip-hop in the most literal and profound ways'. This particular instalment, number 3 in a 4 part series, focused on the songs of Brazilian composer, Arthur Verocai. Senhor Verocai himself conducted a no joke 30 piece orchestra that included legendary Azymuth drummer Ivan 'Mamao' Conti (who recently collaborated with Madlib under the guise 'Jackson Conti') and the Grown Folk House Band's very own Chris Lea on flute.

Peep the vid (that's your dude Chris right there duke):

Word up.

So, this Thursday we have a super duper rad night for you at the ol' Grown Folk Shit party. To start things off we have another live set of handpicked deliciousness by the Grown Folk House Band, starting around 9:30. Don't slip, get there early. Then we have very special guest kin folk Mr. Choc of The World Famous Beat Junkies takin over. Choc is super legit, and you know it. If you feel like you would like to get to know him a wee bit better, tune into this. In between all this madness, resident grown ass joc Ikah Love will be playing a few sides.

Pheww... That's a grip o' shit, for only... 5 dollars. Washingtons!
Huh?... What?... Economic downturn? Well, shit... Since we care so damn much (and we do), how bout you holler at us at GROWNFOLK.RSVP@GMAIL.COM
an' we'll put you on the list. Cool? Cool.

See you Thursday.

Xoxoxo,
The Management.
